McLaren’s new front wing, which will be the same concept it launches its 2027 Formula 1 car with, has been revealed at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

As part of an end-of-season push by the Woking-based squad to deliver continuous improvements to its MCL40, the squad has brought its latest upgrades to Interlagos.

This includes tweaks to its floor, an updated rear wing, but also a front wing that will form the starting point for next season’s MCL41.

The front wing is a change of concept for the team as it features many revisions across the spectrum of wing elements.

The attachment point for the main plane and the endplate has been revised to now run across the lower edge – where it marries up with the refined outboard element.

The attachment between the nose and the main plane has been adjusted to sit on the second flap now rather than the mainplane, while the new wing also features an adjustment in the height of the flap elements.

Speaking ahead of the weekend, McLaren explained that the changes delivered were about both delivering more downforce and improving car balance.

Chief technical officer of aerodynamics Peter Prodromou also made clear that these changes were the launchpad for its 2027 project.

“The season isn't over yet: these upgrades are designed to improve the car now and help us in our fight for third in the championship,” he explained.

“While the learning we take from these upgrades will feed into next year’s development, we also expect to carry over the concept of the new front wing into the launch specification of next year’s car.”
