When Charles Leclerc pitted from the Italian Grand Prix lead under the early virtual safety car and no one else followed, it looked like the Ferrari Formula 1 team might be throwing another race away with a strategy blunder.

But as Mark Hughes, Edd Straw and Scott Mitchell-Malm explain in The Race F1 Podcast, Ferrari just didn’t have what it needed to resist Max Verstappen and Red Bull at Monza whatever tactics it deployed.

The battle between Ferrari and Red Bull in the race was overshadowed by the way it ended – and the reasons for the prolonged safety car period that caused a muted finish are also discussed at length.
