Formula 1's Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort was red-flagged at the start of the second lap following a big shunt for local hero Max Verstappen.

In what is the final Dutch GP for the time being, as Zandvoort relinquishes its place on the grid, Verstappen lost control of his RB22 navigating the final corner and went into the barriers, necessitating an immediate suspension of the race due to the amount of debris and the precarious position of the car.

Verstappen reported to his team immediately that he was not hurt in the incident.

Pre-race rain had left the track dampened but it had dried enough for all 22 drivers to favour slicks for the start.

But cars were kicking up a substantial amount of spray coming through the final two corners and Verstappen crashed hard out of seventh place - having had a bit of wheel-to-wheel contact with his stand-in team-mate Liam Lawson earlier in the lap.

There was also a huge spin coming through the same corner for Gabriel Bortoleto, but he avoided the barriers and thus was able to continue in his Audi.

Lando Norris was the race leader ahead of Kimi Antonelli at the time.
