Just like driving on the road, Formula 1 racers have to adhere to the rules or they will be punished. The stewards at each race will often dish out warnings, fines, grid drop penalties, in-race time penalties, drive-through penalties and other penalties that punish a driver in any given session. But in addition to those on-track penalties, drivers can also be slapped with so-called 'penalty points'. These points remain on a driver's licence for 12 months and if a driver accumulates 12 then they will be banned from the next event.
