Championship leader Kimi Antonelli headed team-mate George Russell in a Mercedes 1-2 in the only Formula 1 practice session at the 2026 Canadian Grand Prix.

The session was red-flagged three times - for a Liam Lawson car failure, Alex Albon [crashing after hitting a groundhog](https://www.the-race.com/formula-1/canada-f1-practice-interrupted-by-albon-groundhog-crash/) and then Esteban Ocon spinning into the wall - and extended to allow teams a little more running ahead of sprint qualifying.
