# Gasly stripped of Monaco podium after court decision

Alpine Formula 1 driver Pierre Gasly has had his two five-second penalties reimposed and therefore lost his 2026 Monaco Grand Prix podium finish, again.

The decision comes after appeals were brought by McLaren and Red Bull against the FIA’s decision to rescind Gasly’s pair of penalties for pitlane speeding in Monaco.

That decision to rescind Gasly’s penalties was made after Alpine petitioned for a right of review. It emerged that Formula One Management had made a measurement error relating to the pitlane distance used to calculate speed.

Red Bull and McLaren appealed the reversal, arguing that changing the measurement benchmark retrospectively undermined sporting fairness as competitors had calibrated their pitlane speed limiters using the original measurements.

Red Bull’s Isack Hadjar - out this weekend in Monza with a wrist injury - therefore receives the final podium place from the 2026 Monaco GP.

McLaren’s Oscar Piastri was classified fourth in Monaco and demoted to fifth when Gasly was reinstated to third.

Piastri, crucially, was one of several drivers who picked up pitlane speeding penalties - but could not have had his punishment rescinded as he served the penalties during the race.

The Australian will however move back up one place in the Monaco standings to fourth, ahead of the Racing Bulls pair - with Gasly now demoted to seventh.

“The team expresses its disappointment and frustration with the outcome reached by the FIA International Court of Appeal relating to the result of the 2026 Monaco Grand Prix,” began a statement released by the Alpine F1 team.

“While we disagree with the decision, and still fully maintain that Car #10 did not exceed the Pit Lane speed limit at any point during the race, the team acknowledges the decision of the judging panel from the recent hearing in Paris.

“While the result is not what we had hoped for, as we feel that we have been unjustly punished, the team is firmly focused on continuing to improve its performance on track and remains in a close and very competitive Championship fight.

“This outcome will not deter the team’s efforts and motivation in achieving its objectives by the end of the season.”
